Many of you may know the syndicated comic strip Red and Rover from cartoonist Brian Basset, but I will confess that I didn’t until very recently. I stumbled upon his comic collection entitled Red and Rover: Fun’s Never Over, and I’m in love!
Previously, he has released collections of Red and Rover comics for a general audience, but this collection from 2022 is his first geared for a middle grade audience.
As a dog LOVER myself, I can tell you right now, Brian Basset nails the love between a dog and his boy, and dog behavior in general. Red and Rover understand one another in a way only true friends can. One can speak, the other can’t, but their ability to communicate with one another is unhindered.
This book is heartwarming with lots of laughs as well! Great for dog lovers or for kids who have difficulty finding something they’ll enjoy reading. And I am confident that any child who picks this up will want to read it more than once!
I highly recommend this title for your classroom libraries and your home libraries!
